North Carolina Tactical Medical AssociationNCTMA MEETINGS & TRAINING
NORTH CAROLINA TACTICAL MEDICAL ASSOCIATION

NCTMA provides high quality specialized training in tactical medicine, utilizing the expertise of members and other expert resources in North Carolina. CME / CEU credits will be provided. Plans include at least an annual training conference in the spring, and an annual meeting (usually held in conjunction with the state EMS meeting). Meeting and training locations will be easily accessible from anywhere in the state.


NCTMA Annual Meeting
 

The
Annual NCTMA meeting will again be held in conjunction with  Emergency Medicine Today, North Carolina's annual statewide EMS conference in Greensboro, NC in Fall 2009. We will hold officer elections, hear from members, and determine the organization's priorities for the next year!


NCTMA Training

 

Spring 2009:       <<PICTURES!>>
The Spring 2009 training conference included a Medical Track and a Law Enforcement Track and was held Saturday June 6, 2009 at the Wake Commons in Raleigh, NC. Door prizes and free samples of poison ivy treatment were provided by sponsors. We were delighted to have instructors including Sean McKay, the nation's leading expert and very popular trainer on high threat extrications, as well as Special Forces operators and instructors from Ft. Bragg, NC.

Training topics included:

  • Panel Discussion: State Level Issues for Tactical Medics  

  • High Threat Extrication from Elevated Positions 

Hands-On Breakout Sessions - Medical

  • Tactical Casualty Extrications

  • Gear Packing

  • Advanced Medic Skills - IO access and Surgical Airway

  • Combat Lifesaver (Self Aid / Buddy Aid)

Spring 2008:      <<PICTURES!>>
The Spring 2008 training conference was held Saturday, 07 JUNE 2008 in Raleigh, NC. Free samples of HemCon hemostatic dressings and door prizes were provided by vendors. 

Training topics included:

  • Combat Casualty Care - Lessons Learned   <Special Operations Forces Combat Medic>

  • Clandestine Drug Labs - Law Enforcement Perspective <Special Agent R. Hetzel, NC State Bureau of Investigation>
  • Clandestine Drug Labs - Medical Perspective <Scott Everett, MD, PhD>
  • High Threat Extrication Techniques  <Sean McKay, North American Rescue Products>

 

Fall 2007:
The Fall 2007 training was Saturday, 06 OCT 2007 at Guilford Tech Community College in Greensboro, NC.

Training topics included:

  • Combat Casualty Care - lessons learned

  • Wound Ballistics

  • Less Lethal Weapon injuries

  • Baton and Restraint use (hand on training)

Vendors gave brief presentations on their most recent products and discounts to conference participants. Certified instructors provided hands on training. Feedback was fantastic!


Spring 2007:     <<PICTURES!>>

The 2007 NCTMA Spring Training was a huge success! It was held Saturday, May 19th 2007 at the Wake County Fire Training Center. It included classroom lectures, live fire exercises, canine care and woodland ops. Thanks go out to Mike Bachman who organized the course, the expert guest instructors who brought such great training, and the vendors / sponsors who made it all happen at minimal cost to participants.

Classroom Training included:

  • Operator orthopedic injuries      <Dr. Paul Hinchey, WakeMed and Wake Co. EMS>

  • Canine Care     <Jo-Anne Brenner and David Dick, from Alpha Response>

  • Ballistic Wounds     <Don Heath, from Tactical Element>

  • Venomous snake bites     <Snake Expert Chris Harper>

Practical field exercises included:

  • Extrication platforms
  • Woodland ops
  • Canine care
  • Care under fire / extrication with live fire

 
Fall 2006:      <<PICTURES!>>
The Fall 2006 training was held on Friday, September 29th, 2006 at Guilford Tech Community College. There was a great turnout for classroom lectures, a vendor show, and field training exercises.
